Even though I was the spouse stuck working in this “dead week” of the year, my wife still worked harder.
As we remember whenever our two little boys are home for longer than a weekend, parenting is a real and really exhausting job.
We long ago realized that looking after kids and conducting any kind of rigorous mental activity is a fool’s errand. We know that multitasking is a lost cause in general—but it’s an especially lost cause when it comes to active parenting and trying to do nearly anything else. (Cooking and cleaning are acceptable tasks, though we suspect our efficacy in both are greatly compromised.)
So, while on paper it looks like Dad had a rough week—timesheets! meetings! InDesign templates!—we all know who worked harder this week.
