Killers of the Flower Moon. Dir. Martin Scorsese. I enjoyed this film, but it was a bit of a slog, at over three and a half hours. Having just read the book, I was also in a position to consider the two side by side…and the book is better.
Monsters, Inc. Dir. Pete Docter. Had not seen this one in over a decade and it was a fun time for the family.
Various American Idol clips. Somehow, I avoided seeing any American Idol. Fascinating to watch a handful of old Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood clips.
Read
How to Live: Or a Life of Montaigne in One Question and Twenty Attempts at an Answer. Sarah Bakewell. Having read several of the essays and really enjoyed them, this goblet of context was welcome. Bakewell does a great job not only providing a high-level biography of Montaigne, but a historiography of sorts as to how he and his work have fared over the centuries.
We Need to Hang Out: A Memoir of Making Friends. Billy Baker. The truth of this book hit me sort of hard: I’m approaching middle age (or in it already?) with a spouse, two young kids, a job that keeps me busy, and…well, not that many friends. Baker tells the story of how he realized his equivalent situation as well as what he does about it. A little too journalistic for my taste.
Listen
USA. Petey. Digging the Midwest emo vibes of Petey’s second album.
Heaven knows. PinkPantheress. Despite how BIG this artist is, the album retains a real home recorded feel.
Life
Thanksgiving! And all the food prep that comes with it.
Colorado Railroad Museum. Compared with the Polar Express visit from a few weeks ago, a quiet visit clunking around old trains in the cold with my son.
