On 7 things from last week (10/30/23)

  1. Pueblo. In five years living on the Front Range, most of my travel has been into the mountains rather than along them. So, last week marked only the second time I’ve been to Pueblo. And it was delightful! Clearly, the city has struggled in the past decades, but there are signs of life in the well-preserved downtown that were fun to see.
  2. Sinus infection. Winter is coming! And with the winter, the dreaded crop of colds, coughs, and other daycare goodies. Here’s to the first one!
  3. Three schools. I went to three separate schools in one day last week to get some photos of the recently finished buildings. In a twist, all three schools were based on the same prototype design, which left my brain reeling as I went from one school to the next.
  4. Halloween costume construction. My wife led the delightful engineering/construction project of building our toddler an airplane costume out of cardboard, paper, gesso, acrylic, glue, duct tape, and the hacked-off straps from a disused Whole Foods grocery bag.
  5. Snow! The weather in Colorado loves its temperature swings. One day it’s 80 degrees, the next it snows seven inches.
  6. Lake of Fire. A cool documentary about the a recently discovered “lava lake” in the South Sandwich Islands.
  7. Louis Armstrong’s Hot Five and Hot Seven recordings. Almost a century later, they continue to delight.
