Today, I had to explain what an RFP is to a high school student—a freshman high school student.
Normally, when I explain that a lot of my job is answering RFPs and RFQs, they just…get it. Not the details, of course—but they understand the premise.
But I’ve not been faced with explaining it to a high schooler. So: why does a client put out an RFP?
Well, just like when you need some plumbing work done at your house, you get a couple different—
Does a high schooler know about plumbing problems?
Well, an RFP is like a job posting, and our response is like—
Does a freshman know about applying for jobs?
The trouble with explaining things to young people is that so many analogies falter. I’m still looking, by the way, so hit me up with better analogies!
