On 7 things from last week (8/21/23)

  1. Crabs. I have a confession: I’d never eaten crabs before this last week. (Save for the rare crab cake and real California roll, I’d hardly even eaten crab meat.) And, like their culinary companions lobster, I learned that eating crabs is a real dining adventure.
  2. Summer Triangle. Ever so slowly, I’m trying to learn more about the night sky—this triangle of stars was a fun discovery.
  3. You’re the One (Rhiannon Giddens). An eclectic album of originals, with some great folk-country-blues tunes.
  4. Women’s World Cup final. A nail biter!
  5. Old toys. Learned that among my childhood matchbox cars (which my toddler got to play with this past weekend) was some of the original Matchbox series vehicles from the late 1950s, from my own dad’s childhood collection.
  6. Go, Dog, Go (P.D. Eastman). Picked up the full-length copy of this clsssic from my parents’ attic. We’re pretty used to the abbreviated board book version, so it’ll take some getting used to this longer one.
  7. Outdoor showers. Wishing that such a thing is feasible in Colorado…
