- A new deck! A finished construction project somehow makes you want to never do another big DIY project ever again and simultaneously begin brainstorming the next one.
- Dinosaur Ridge. Will a toddler enjoy the famous Dinosaur Ridge? Yes, if we’re talking about the sandbox where the museum manager hides fake fossils for kids to find.
- World Cup (highlights). With two kids under three and wake-ups galore, I haven’t had the sleep in my system to stomach most of the World Cup matches. So thank God for the morning-after highlight reels!
- Storm by George R. Stewart. Stewart is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. His “eco-novel” Storm, which dates to 1941, is a canny and clever novel about, well, a winter storm that hits California. It’s the parts of The Day After Tomorrow that aren’t about being trapped in the New York Public Library.
- Italian ice and soft serve ice cream. I didn’t think this combination made any sense before I tried it. But then I tried it, and now I think everyone else should, too.
- Time Ain’t Accidental (Jess Williamson). The more I listen to this album, the more I love it.
- The end of leave. And the return of work. (And a paycheck!)
