On January 3, I published a post on being a “sucker” for resolutions that included a fateful and rhetorical question:
What if I wrote a blog post every day?
Oh boy.
Here we are, just over halfway through the year, and I’ve found myself plugging away at this strange resolution. Technically, there are plenty of days that I’ve missed—finding myself knocking out two posts in a day and back-dating to maintain the illusion of my resolution.
But the self-inflicted and unnecessary stress aside, I’ve also worried:
What’s the point of this?
Is it:
- to write every day?
- to learn how to think?
- to figure out what topics interest me enough to put pen to paper?
- to give myself yet another challenging habit to keep up?
If I’m honest, I think I expected more from this exercise than I’ve so far gotten.
Writing every day is great, sure, but I already do that. (Journaling, though, is not for an audience.)
Have I learned how to think better about things? Not really, though more and more I see that this is an ongoing project, one that never comes to a clear conclusion.
Topics? Yes, I’d say that it’s been interesting to see what occurs to me as topics worth writing about. I’ve found, to my surprise, that attempting honest takes about my work as an A/E/C marketer has been a surprisingly clarifying exercise.
Another challenging habit? Well, obviously.
