- The beach. Okay, it’s not much of a beach to a transplanted East Coaster…but the shoreline of Chatfield Reservoir is about as close as I’ll get to the beach experience for at least a few more weeks. Water plus sun plus sunscreen plus two toddlers laughing hysterically as they sword-fight with pool noodles. What more could you want?
- A new outdoor table. I’ve been grinding away at my first big woodworking project: a new dining table for our outdoor deck. Our $500 composite and aluminum table, courtesy of Wayfair, has steadily been disintegrating over the past two years, so literally anything would be an improvement!
- Carrie Rodriguez. Although I knew Rodriguez’s 2016 album Lola, which includes the awesome song “I Dreamed I Was Lola Beltrán,” I didn’t know any of her previous work. I listened to her 2008 album She Ain’t Me the other day and I’m excited to dig into more of her previous work.
- Northern catalpa. There are a couple blooming in our neighborhood. What a cool tree.
- The Little Engine that Could. The featured picture book in our bedtime rotation—I think I’ve read it 20 times in the past few weeks—I finally looked up the history of the book, and was charmed to learn that it’s based on an American folktale!
- Sum: Forty Tales from the Afterlives by David Eagleman. Highly recommended.
- The Resort. Enjoying this odd mystery TV show from Peacock about a couple who uncovers a clue to a decade-old cold case while on vacation in Mexico.
