- Family hike. We managed 0.8 miles—and our toddler walked almost 3/4 of the full distance! We wrote it down as a success and went to get rooftop margaritas to celebrate.
- Walks in the park. I’m enjoying long, unhurried walks in the park the past week with my four-month-old. Lots of tree and plant identification going on!
- Crazy weather. Multiple bouts of hail, at least four thunderstorms, and nearly an inch of rain cap off a wild week of Front Range weather. (Or perhaps I’m noticing the weather more as I keep a weather observation log?)
- Lucy by the Sea by Elizabeth Strout. I’m now 7/9 of published Strout works, and this one ranks high up there. Not only a thoughtful depiction of life in lockdown, this novel reconnects us to Strout characters from previous novels in a way that feels seamless and never forced.
- Jury Duty. The Freevee series is everything that reviewers promised—the written content is silly and fun, but the unscripted interactions with the “non-actor,” who is our effective Truman, are a delight.
- Binomial nomenclature. Found a journal article about the various rules for naming species that ate up the better part of an hour. Reflections pending.
- Championship Sunday. The relegation process in the Premier League was a sports drama I’ve never witnessed before. Loved the last 10 minutes of the Everton game yesterday.
