- The White Lotus, Season 2. I liked this season more than the first—knowing that death is coming for one of the characters (excepting a single one) from the first minutes of the season gives the season a real narrative momentum.
- Painful (Yo La Tengo). An old favorite of mind, this album hits that sweet spot of late night indie rock with heart.
- Creedence Clearwater Revival. “Lookin’ Out My Back Door” ended up as an earworm this past Friday for some reason, so I pulled up Cosmo’s Factory and a handful of other CCR albums. Amazed to hear the middle half of Cosmo’s Factory includes the three-song run of “Lookin’ Out My Back Door,” “Run Through the Jungle,” and “Up Around the Bend.”
- Jules and Jim. I hadn’t rewatched this French New Wave classic since high school, but remembered enjoying it. I loved it, seeing it again. It sparkles with a lightness and vitality more than 60 years after being made.
- Grilled pineapple on a burger. I know. I didn’t think it made sense either. But it was delicious. (h/t to Illegal Burger in Arvada for making it)
- Premier League soccer. I’ve been getting into the Premier League more and more the past months, no longer in an ironic way. (That’s how it started—wanting to “watch more soccer” following the close of the World Cup.) I’ve got probably another season before I’ll feel qualified to opine on soccer.
- RIP Gene Kohn. The co-founder of KPF died last week at 92. You wouldn’t think that a lowly marketing coordinator with only a scant two years at KPF would’ve seen much of Gene—but, as my luck would have it, Gene’s office was directly across from the marketing department office, so chitchat with Gene was a typical part of my week. Besides being one of the world’s most influential architects, he was a lovely man.
