Kashmir Hill recently wrote about how we have let our digital archives get away from us.
And its accuracy scared me.
I, too, have steadfastly ignored my “iCloud full” warnings for the better part of two years now.
And most of these images are not important, anyway! Many of them are just digital clutter: accidental screen caps, dumb jokes, or—worst of all—aspirational “remember this later” photos of potential gifts, the VIN sticker on our new car, IKEA product tags…
This is what I save by default.
Coincidentally, I spent two hours on 12/31 (squeezing it in!) trying to wrap a project that dates to March 2021: a photo book of our family trip to Arizona.
A photo book is the opposite tack to the steady, unedited stream of half memories in my Photos app.
Hill’s article suggested that there ought to be more photo books in my 2023.
Or at least a solid culling of the 1,200 photos on my phone…
